I'd take the Cincy forecast in a hearbeat. We've had at least 2-3 inches of rain today and wind gusts over 50 mph and its not going to end for another 24 hours.
    Where we gonna go?

Manhattan is kind of crazy, especially near the Battery and most of downtown. Quite a few without power and an insane amount of water. The subway appears to be flooded. Certainly could be worse though, even though there have been some deaths, which is incredibly sad.

It looks to be 100X worse near the Jersey Shore though.

Ike? Out of everyone I know in Cincinnati, I was the only one that didn't lose power, once. I kept offering my co-workers a place to have a hot shower and watch some TV, but they never took me up on it.

My friends on the other hand basically lived off my house for a week... stored their food in my fridge, used my PC, and used all my hot water.

I was getting some pretty nasty gusts around midnight-2:00. A huge oak tree across the street was bending and swaying all over the place. That thing is so big it would level my house.

I was going through marble-sized hale about 4:00 AM. The winds were really strong, too. The weather was so crazy that a drunk buddy of mine said, "Nature seems really unnatural lately."

Storm got crazy last night. Trees, power lines, fences all down. Really felt like the roof was going to be opened like a can a few times. Looks like my power is going to be out for a while... maybe a week. No bueno. Heading south to Atlanta for the rest of the week.

    Hope everyone else is safe.

had 800+ claims come into the office today.

Got to tell a bunch of new yorkers that they have 3-5% hurricane deductibles.

I wouldn't think many would have coverage to begin with. Or it mandatory for a home loan in NYC?

not sure if it's "mandatory" or not.

if you own a home, and don't have homeowner's insurance, you probably shouldn't own that home.

Pretty sure he's talking about hurricane insurance, not homeowner's.

New York and Connecticut's departments of insurance have announced that the hurricane deductibles are not to be enforced for this claim.

I can see that for Connecticut, as the maximum sustained winds weren't hurricane force.

    New York is different.

This will help people out in the short term to be sure, but this will be bad news for the long run. I bet the carriers will pull out of New York, much like they have in Florida.
New York wind pool will be next.
