I was about to post pretty much this exact same thing. If someone would have asked me how old he is, I would have answered 42 without blinking.
There is no such thing as a pitching prospect.

Unsubstantiated rumors abound that Hanigan is about to be traded and this move is because of it.

    Stay tuned.

    I doubt that.

I would hope Navarro was signed as insurance and minor league filler.

While I would say a trade of Hanigan is unlikely, this signing does help with depth if Hanigan is involved in an upcoming trade.

The timing of the signing is kind of interesting. The Rays, who showed interest in Hanigan earlier in the off season, just DFA'd a catcher several days ago (his spot on the 40 man roster has already be replaced though).

Walt Jocketty spoke with us tonight about today’s Reds news and other topics:

    – On signing catcher Dioner Navarro to a minor league deal:

”It’s purely for depth. After trading (Yasmani) Grandal, we need somebody at Triple-A with major league experience. We have that with (Navarro) and Corky (Miller).”

Does that require that Navarro also grow the stache that Javy had as well?

I love this move. This is one of those moves that most fans (non-RedsZoners) probably don't think anything of right now, but will end up being very-beneficial for the Reds. Chances are extremely good that one of the catchers (Mes or Hani) will get hurt and someone will need to be called up from AAA. I'll sure as hell be glad that's a proven vet like Navarro. Don't just look at his numbers from last year. The guy can play. Solid defensively as well. Love it.

Navarro joins Bronson Arroyo, Jay Bruce, Ryan Ludwick, Brandon Phillips, Scott Rolen, and Joey Votto as the All-Stars in the organization.

Hard to believe nobody in the bullpen has gotten there...

Another good low risk move for insurance at the catching position.

Yeah, I'll give the Reds credit for improving depth.

Damn, no love for Brian Esposito who has three games of big league time. Thanks for nothing Walt.

Staff meeting on Monday, everyone awkward pause, as WJ speaks "would someone like to address that Corky Miller is now our most advanced catcher in the minor leagues?"
"Rounding 3rd and heading for home, good night everybody"

During one of my MVP Baseball 2005 franchise plays, I signed Navarro as my starting catcher to replace David Ross (yes, it has been that long ago). He rocked for a season and a half, then I traded him to the Twins for Joe Mauer. I fully expect this to happen in real life!
