I'm admittedly not a Creed fan, but I kind of thought every song sounded the same. Actually, I'll confess I may not have heard many of the songs from "My Own Prison" but at least after that, all their songs sounded identical.

Heard in every household throughout time since music was invented...

"Will you turn that crap down?"
"It's not crap, Dad, it's music!"
"That ain't music, that's just noise. When I was your age we listened to (insert age appropriate musical artist here). Now that was music!"

What are you talking about? For about 3-4 years, Nirvana albums were highly anticipated and sold millions. Their concerts, the magazines with their pictures on them and their public appearances were all consumed eagerly. Cobain was a big name and such a big public figure that when he died, millions of people were affected by it. Because he had mental health issues, he never grasped that his music touched a lot of people and he was loved for that gift.

Doug, I was only 14 and didn't listen to anything but the 'oldies' my dad spoonfed me as a kid, but even I had heard of Nirvana at the time, and when Cobain killed himself (or was killed by Courtney Love if you believe in alternate reality), that's all there was being talked about for nearly a week. It was a pretty big deal.

Doug wasn't referring to Nirvana when he said he'd have heard of them if they had mass appeal. It was some of the other bands in NeilHamburger's post.

I knew who Nirvana was. No one over the age of 8 in the 90s didn't. I enjoyed them. I was referring to the other bands in that post.

Oh OK. My bad. I misread that.

Given two different people thinking I said it, I probably worded what I meant poorly.

Most bands have issues. Some times they can work through them. I'd say success is just as often a reason bands break up as anything else.
Wow - Not to sidetrack this thread, but I loved seeing MLB mentioned. "Apple" is absolutely one of my top 10 "albums" of all time. "Stargazer" is still one of my favorite songs.

Mookie Blaylock is kind of a pretty good band.

It seems like the entire grunge movement was a bunch of interchangeable parts. If you were good and active you found yourself contributing to many different bands or even albums.

Unfortunately drugs short circuited what could have been some great bands. I guess you could say that about any era, but guys like Lane Staley, Scott Weiland, Kurt Cobain, etc. all saw great starts to their bands but they ended way too soon if you ask me.

And the drugs, quite often, went hand in hand with the success/popularity of the band. I'd say especially in the case of Weiland and Staley.

You are my new best friend.

I adore that album, still listen to it OFTEN. I have Chloe Dancer in my head all the time for no real reason. I even enjoyed Malfunkshun though they were not nearly as polished as MLB. Still Andy Wood was the very definition, for many in my generation, of the one who went too early, even over Kurt or Layne.

Championships for MY teams in my lifetime:
    Cincinnati Reds - 75, 76, 90
    Chicago Blackhawks - 10, 13, 15
    University of Kentucky - 78, 96, 98, 12
    Chicago Bulls - 91, 92, 93, 96, 97, 98

Bruce and punk. I got your Bruce punk right here.

YouTube - The clash & Dave Grohl & Bruce Springsteen - London calling

1978 Bruce. Not punk but what a solo.
YouTube - Bruce Springsteen - Prove It All Night - Passaic, NJ - High Quality

then there is Bruce at 60 with Morello. What Morello does starting at about 7:00 minutes in is just sick.

Passaic "Because the Night"- for anyone who believes that 10k Maniacs version is the best.

Its kind of ironic, but two of my favorite bands are direct off shoots of deaths. I really can't say I am/was much a fan of MLB, but without the death of their front man, Temple of the Dog never produces an album, and Pearl Jam never forms.

Then you have Kurt Cobain who everybody knows about. But without Kurt's death Foo Fighters aren't formed.

You never know how long Nirvana and MLB would have stayed together but both Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters have had a long successful rock career. One that you don't see too often out of successful bands in today's rock climate.

As for Lane Staley it truly is a sad story. Every time AIC mentioned getting back together Staley couldn't keep it together. IIRC Staley died weighing less than 100 pounds and without a dollar to his name.

Give me Mad Season over almost anything.. Much preferred that to TOTD.
This is the time. The real Reds organization is back.
