Ross to DL; Jorgensen coming up

The Reds will place catcher David Ross on the disabled list as the result of yesterday's collision with Mike Cameron.

The club will promote Ryan Jorgensen from Triple-A Louisville to take Ross' spot. Jorgensen, 27, was hitting .229 with two home runs and 26 RBI in 236 at-bats with the Bats. He played four games in the majors with the Marlins in 2005.

    Re: Ryan Jorgenson

In another thread, someone asked that his information be kept private, so we should all respect that. I could be wrong, but that might include his identity.

I'm back. This time to be nice and cordial, as some thought I wasn't so nice last time.
He should try a bit harder to hold up his end of the bargain too. Sorry I'm grumpy today...I'll get over it.

When Jorgensen was called up, I thought, "I'd rather see Miguel Perez--he has more potential," but then I thought about it, and I'm glad it was Jorgensen who got the call. When Ross comes back, the Reds will DFA Jorgensen, and if the Reds lose him, it's no loss because of the quantity of catchers at the minor league levels who are younger and have much higher ceilings than Jorgensen.

Whats up with Hanigan? I haven't followed him much, but I thought he had a ceiling of some sort, opposed to RJ.

Maybe they didn't want to lose him this year when Ross comes back, which as you mention, might happen to Jorg.

Yea, I hope RJ enjoys his stay in the bigs for 2 weeks or however long it may last. This will most likely be the last time he plays in the majors.

Wow, some of you guys are harsh.

I realize many of us are critical to the Reds and certain players and I realize that RJ isn't the best player in the Reds farm system, but there is certainly a difference when you know that player is going to read what you're saying. At least in my book.

Kinda neat to have one of our own make it to the big club.

    Congrats!

The guy has probably worked his tail off and paid his dues. However, I don't think the criticism is related to his quality as a player. I'd say just about everyone here would be cheering him on under normal circumstances. That stuff we're not allowed to talk about is the source of the criticism.

I hope he finds success in his time with the Reds, but I also hope that he will at some point realize that there is no shame in being a career minor leaguer who, for lack of a better characterization, "played the game the right way".

    Congrats Ryan!

Why you guys so harsh on him? He is better than any of us here and has played in AAA for the whole year. Give the guys props.

I think some people are being so harsh because they know he's going to read what the write.

    Re: Ryan Jorgenson

He has been cordial since he showed up the 2nd time. He did take some shots at people who were antagonizing him, but none of us would be expected to quietly take some of the stuff folks were saying about him.

I am glad to have him on the board. His insight into how/why pitchers have performed in a certain way along with the inside info he has posted adds a great deal to the value of the board.

Congrats. It is good to have a redszone member on the Reds. Maybe the first hit will come with Reds.

    Re: Ryan Jorgenson

I'm not going to tone down what I would normally say just because of who might read it. It's nothing personal; it's just my style.

Anyway, I don't know too much about Ryan Hanigan. He walks more than he strikes out (which is very little), but I think I've heard is defense is where he's lacking. Seeing as how the Reds' backup is Valentin, if that's true about Hanigan, it sounds like he's not the guy you'd want to call up to replace Ross.
