Seriously, why in the world would you pull Arroyo here? It probably won't matter, but still, that's a strange move.

All I've got is he achieved near perfection in the 8th and Dusty couldn't bear to ruin that.

Because it was 1-0 and they made the decision to pull him. Heart of the lineup coming up and Chapman certainly needed a bit of work.

Once you get the 3 run lead, you've already told Bronson he was done so he's mentally checked out. So he's done regardless. They had Chapman throwing at full steam, might as well use him. Warming and sitting usually is a bad idea. Worse if it's done multiple times of course, but the point remains.

Gotcha. Certainly a reasonable explanation. But I would have preferred to see Bronson stay in even in a 1-run game. Dude was pitching a shutout. What about his performance would make the manager think a guy coming in cold (as far as actual game pitches) from the bullpen would be an improvement over a guy tossing a shutout? I'd be real nervous right now if it was a 1-run game with a fresh pitcher coming in. Arroyo was cruisin'.

Don't get me wrong, I wanted him to stay in too. But it's hard to argue against it too. He does tend to lose it close to 90 pitches or so. Tough bunch of hitters due up.
