My favorite album of the year was Sigh No More by Mumford and Sons. Nothing even came close for me this year and I was pleasantly surprised by the Grammy nominations it picked up.

"Sigh No More" was easily my favorite too. Rounding out my top three are "Contra" by Vampire Weekend and "Astro Coast" by Surfer Blood.

And I know it doesn't count since it came out in 2009, but I only discovered it in '10: "I and Love and You" by the Avett Brothers is outstanding.

I also really like the band Girls - only just found out about them.

That is a great album. Check out Live, Volume 3 if you want to hear the Avett Brothers at their best.

    Ditto that.

Honorable mention to the albums from Arcade Fire and Broken Bells. Without putting too much thought into it, either of those would have been the best album of 2009 for me if they came out last year.

I'd have to think about it more...but 3 that immediately come to mind are Infinite Arms by Band of Horses, III/IV by Ryan Adams and the Cardinals and Plastic Beach by The Gorillaz.

I'd add to that Brothers by the Black Keys and Majesty Shredding by Superchunk.

    Fang Island - Fang Island
Of the Blue Colour of the Sky - OK Go (I have to the only person that's not a fourteen year-old girl talking about them on the internet haha)

I've seen both both Surfer Blood and The Thermals (who are from portland). Both very good live bands.
