“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Y'know, except for the presence of Castro, that is a lineup that does NOT make me want to puke.

Griffey must have really needed a day off.

I will amend my statement. Griffey must have really needed two days off.

Not really. I'm sure they didn't get home until late sunday night/ early monday morning. The Reds really shouldn't expect to get more than 130 games or so out of Griffey anyway.

GRiffey's been needing a day off for some time. The last 2 times he's been scheduled to take a day off, they've had to play him becsue of other's injuries.

Giving him 2 days off might mean he'll go back to being the hitter he was for most of May.

He's looked a little sluggish out there lately.

Gonzalez is hurt IIRC. Hopefully he's not out long. If he had to go on the DL I'd rather see Janish up here.

This is why Gonzalez is so vastly important. It's the one position where if he gets injured we have absolutely zero depth.

Plus, a .837 OPSing SS with reasonably good defense doesn't grow on trees.

    Hmmm...

    Hopper rf
    Hamilton cf
    Phillips 2b
    Dunn lf
    Encarnacion 3b
    Hatteberg 1b
    Ross c
    Castro ss
    Harang p

Now for my nightly rant...oops, actually a lineup that I agree with! Griffey has needed a day off, and with Hamilton back and Hopper on a hot streak, now is the perfect time to do it. Gonzalez is a little gimpy, so Castro starting at SS is not unexpected. I like that Ross has moved up to the #7 spot with Castro hitting #8.

This lineup puts some decent pinch-hitters on the bench tonight: Griff, Valentin, & Conine.
