Saw him a lot when he was in Huntsvlle. He had more two less walks than strikeouts (64/66)

It's doubtful he would have made it this year. His numbers weren't too bad, but they were in the hitter's paradise of Bakersfield.

Is Travis Mattair a upgrade over Alex Buchholz? How would you compare the Two?

From what I've read, Mattair is a great glove, iffy bat. A true 3rd baseman defensively, which is somewhat rare. Buchholz is a solid bat, iffy glove. Neither guy is a bona fide major league prospect.

Scouts can tell their GM about a guy being worth it until they are blue in the face. The GM has to actually listen to them for it to matter.

It makes no sense that the Reds didn't take a flyer on someone. It only costs 50,000, right? And you get half of that back if you return the player.

It sounds like the Reds hoped to take a flyer but the player was gone.

The Reds had a player targeted for the Rule 5 draft but he was taken by the time it came to their pick.

Travis Mattair interview from MILB. He was still with the Phillies organization at the time.

Came across this blog post on Mattair getting drafted. Apparently he's worked with Phillies bloggers, so maybe some of the RZ folks who work with minor league players might have another willing subject.

Still need to be stickied? We have a whole bunch of stickied posts right now and not all of them are exactly relevant anymore.
