    Scott Rolen

Is it time to revist the idea of him returning? He left the door open when he decided to not come back before Spring Training. I think the general concensus before the year was nobody wanted Rolen because they wanted Frazier to be the everyday third baseman, and while he hasn't been great (good?), he still is putting up better numbers than Rolen did last year.

I said it at the time, I think he would benefit greatly from being a part time player.

Your current OPS from bench players are:
    Robinson .680
    Hanigan .530
    Heisey .529
    Hannahan .500
    Iztuis .483

I mean oh my God that's awful. I knew it was bad, but I didn't realize it was that bad.

I would be fully behind bringing Rolen back in a limited role for the last 2-2.5 months coming off the bench. He's probably a better option than anyone the Reds have coming off the bench right now.

I now am prepared to be laughed at.

I really doubt Rolen is going to play at this point. I haven't heard a thing about him and if he were wanting to play you would think something would be said by now. But really he couldn't be worse than what the Reds have now. Just an awful bench. Hannahan has especilly been a disappointment. I really thougt he was a good pickup. But he just doesn't look good at all the chances he's been given.

    He's retired.

    Is he?

Reds President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Walt Jocketty said of 3B Scott Rolen, who will not be attending camp with the Reds this spring, “Scott made significant contributions to our team’s recent success, and it isn’t a coincidence we made the playoffs in two of his three full seasons here. He made a huge impact in Cincinnati with his work ethic and leadership on the field, in the clubhouse and in our community.”…Rolen, who issued this statement through the team, said, “Right now I’m simply not ready to make a commitment. I would like to leave my options open, without closing any doors. I am looking forward to all of the challenges, both personally and professionally, I will face in the future.”

Unless he came dirt cheap then maybe. Even then I'm not sure it changes much.

He's knocking back a cold one at the Rod n Reel Pier in Anna Maria, I bet.

Even if Rolen wanted to come back, at his age it would take a while to be game ready again.

I hope his back is feeling better!

How long is the rehab time for a fork injury? Could he begin normal baseball activities by the all-star break?

I'm down for anything that gets Hannahan and Izturis off the roster.

I'm not convinced Scotty R. couldn't be useful for half a season or so.

Replace Cairo or Jacoby in the dugout with Rolen and then see what happens. That would be the move I'd make. We need a motivator in the dugout. Not Biff and Bo.

Why do half the people on this board think Jacoby is a/the problem???

What kind of motivation would he provide?
