    Hamilton, Guardado updates

DENVER -- Beautiful day out here in the mountains, but Josh Hamilton isn't seeing it. Hamilton is completing his assignment in Durham today. He'll join the team in St. Louis.

Wayne Krivsky said he didn't think it was best for Hamilton to fly out here for one game. His first coupel fo games back Hamilton told Krivsky his legs weren't quite under him yet.

"It didn’t seem like the wise and prudent thing to do to go through all that travel for one game. If he’d been eligible for Friday that would be a different," Krivsky said. "Based on everything he went through physically, it didn’t make sense to do it for one game. I'm sure I'll get criticized for that, but that goes with the territory -- have a little wider lens than one game, you’ve got to put it all together and it’s the smart thing to do."

Krivsky also said he talked to Eddie Guardado, who threw a perfect 1-2-3 inning for the Dayton Dragons last night. Guardado told him he felt fine.

"He hasn’t gone back-to-back yet," Krivsky said. "We want to get him some time in a higher level. The trainers have been through this kind of stuff before."

Hamilton should be with the team today. He could have traveled last night instead of playing and he'd have plenty of rest for today's start. With an off day tomorrow and a fairly brief flight to St. Louis there's no reason to not have him playing today. Are they trying to cut costs with airfare, or have they completely given up on the season already? I don't get it.

It's really not that big of a deal.

No, it's not that big of a deal, but I'd like to see the team take getting the best out of what they have more seriously. We've seen these sorts of roster moves all too much over the last three or four years...leaving the team a man short, not bringing up a player for dumb reasons like this.
It's a lack of killer instinct in the front office, and it has translated onto the field if you ask me. I'm going make the same effort to watch the game today.

I think Wayne, Jerry, and company are taking the long and deliberate approach. Bring him along slowly, make sure he is healthy, and understand that that a whole season in the bigs is such a grind.

Perhaps even more important, this is his hometown crowd. The Raleigh-Durham area is where he grew up and where he lives. He, and they, have been hoping for this for nearly a decade. Let him bask in his recent success with friends and family as he plays for the Bats against the Durham Bulls.

It is without a doubt very good for his psyche and that is awfully important in this young mans comeback.

We don't need Guardado as much as I thought we would. Weathers has been solid so far.

Baseball is a long season and one game doesn't always mean that much but them not bringing Hamilton up for this game shows that they don't really care about today's game. I don't think teams in last place have the luxury of throwing away games.

We need Guardado so Weathers can be pitching where he should be, and that is the 8th inning.

I haven't read all the posts in this thread, but has anyone mentioned the possibility of hundreds of dollars in extra travel expenses being a factor?

I agree, I think it has a lot to do with his psyche.

I'm just saying Weathers has been doing well at the closer spot

He has done well considering it is not a role he is really suited for. He has been the best option on the team but once Guardado is back he can move back to the 8th inning where he belongs.
