Re: Reds vs. Cardinals - 7/5/09

Taveras really is the perfect guy to bat 9th... I don't want him up with men on base and I certainly don't want him getting more PA than anybody else. Move everybody else up a slot and be done with it.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

You're not going to beat Carpenter by stringing together bunches of hits; he doesn't give up any. You're going to have to get lucky and get one pitch to elevate.

All the more reason for a power bat out there instead of two CF in the OF.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Pujols singles to LF. Feels like a moral victory to start the 4th.

    One on, none out.

I guess, though Nix has been terrible lately and Gomes would stand little better chance against Carpenter than Taveras.

    Ludwick singles to CF.

Nix doubled again yesterday and continues to lead the team with 19. He would not have been the worst choice possible to try and get some power into the line-up.

Ankiel pops out to CF on the first pitch he sees. Thanks, Ankiel!

One down, runners still on first and second.

    Molina up.

By the way, I was at the game yesterday, was George on the mic for FSN? What was his explanation for Molina's throwing the ball inexplicably into LF to gift-wrap the Reds a third run?

3-0 Cards. I'd start packing it in right about now.
