Justin Mallett up from Chattanooga to make the start for Louisville. He pitches five strong innings giving up four hits and a walk, while striking out five. He gave up two unearned runs. He has quietly worked his way up through the organization at a brisk pace. He started 2006 in Dayton before being advanced to Sarasota and on to Chattanooga. He started 2007 in Chattanooga and is now in Louisville.

when did we pick up buck coats?
there's nothing like bowling a 300 game! 13 now and retired.

Ricky henderson has a higher OBP than C. patterson and he's retired. C. Trent 6-14-2008

Any word on call-ups today? I expect Coffey and Salmon. I'd like to see Votto as well.
Are there any potential starters better than Shearn?

Nice game for the remodeled Lookouts.

But where's mention of my man Michael Griffin? I'm surprised this guy gets almost zero recognition on this board -- two more hits last night, a 2B and 3B, and now he's up to .325 after a very slow start.

You are right. I admit I haven't noticed him. In 165 AA plate appearances he is putting up .325/.358/.500/.858. In his last 10 games he's played 3B, LF, RF, 2B.

Yet another multi position type who appears to at least have an idea with the bat. He, Rosales and Keppinger give the Reds a number of bench options the next couple of years to really create a flexible situation for dealing with injuries and backfilling for trades to get pitching. I think Valaika's future may be in this mold as well if his bat comes back around.

I have heard the Reds will call up Marcus McBeth and Phil Dumatrait today. There may be other call-ups after September 3 when the AAA season ends.
