So, basically it is just gross incompetence by Law? I can roll with that.

I don't want to go that far. But, I would say that somewhere along the way he got a real bad look at him and it stuck with him, or his source(s) missed the boat.

I have always thought that Law was not a big fan of the Reds in that he never seems to value their individuals and prospects very highly. It could be homerism on my part but i have always perceived a negative bias on his part towards the Reds system.

Prospect watchers tend to stay kind of faithful to any earlier rankings/assessments they've made. Everybody wants to be proven right, so maintaining very high rankings on guys like Braden Shipley, Kyle Zimmer and Mark Appel should be expected of Law, I guess, as it seems to validate what he's said before. Human nature. Just can't take any of these lists too seriously. I was looking back at his rankings for the 2011 draft, when Stephenson went. Favorite misfire was Jose Fernandez at #26 -- funny now to see some of the names he had higher.

Other names ranked below Stephenson. Bundy,Meadows, Castellanos, Heaney. Maybe it is more about the guys ahead of him?

I saw Heaney in person this season. I liked him. I didn't love him. Looks like a good #3 starter. 89-92, good movement. Flashed a solid breaking ball, but flashed a really bad one quite a few times as well. Didn't use his change up much, but it was average when he showed it. Smooth mechanics. Control of the fastball was good. Control of the offspeed stuff stunk.

All in all, he shouldn't be anywhere near Stephenson in prospect rankings. Every pitch Stephenson throws is much better. Stephenson has better control.

Went out of his way to rip the Latos trade and say it was "clearly" in the Padres' favor.

    How's that sounding now, Keith?

Seriously, the guy is a complete tool. The only thing that's worse than his lack of knowledge is his completely condescending attitude. Also has a very poor writing style.

Other than that, I love the guy!

Keith Law apparently likes the trade for the Reds. Is hell freezing over? It's a pretty good read actually. He says the deal largely hinges on Grandal and how successful he is as to which team wins the trade. He also said he likes Rizzo better than Alonso and would trade Alonso.

I did laugh at this line...

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, however I seem to find many unbalanced statements on the board regarding previous Law articles

Sounds pretty in line with Law except with the assessment of the change, which is way off from what he thinks.

Most Cardinals fans hate Law. Have ever since his 2009 CY Young voting.

I am with Law on his assessment of the Latos trade. Almost.

If a team other than the Reds traded those same prospects for Latos, it was an insane overpay. But the Reds, unlike just about anyone else, had better options than all of those guys so trading them didn't matter as much to them as it would have to someone else who didn't have Devin Mesoraco and Joey Votto on their teams. On a straight up talent for talent trade, the Reds gave up way more than they got back. But trades don't work that way because the Reds were never going to use Alonso or Grandal.

Now that you confirmed that, I just can't fathom how there are only what, 5 guys between them in all of the minor leagues in talent? Either right after Stephenson the entire minor league talent pool drops off severely, or the two guys shouldn't be close to each other in the rankings.
