Billings is just underway. Zachary Vincej singled in the first and is now hitting .440. Sal Romano pitched a perfect first, fanning two.

That's what you want to do with Marmol on the mound.

Swing at the first bleeping pitch.

    Thought we should point out a combined 2-hitter by Billings last night: Sal Romano (5 IP, 2 H, 4 K), Nick Routt ( 2 IP, 3 K), Jordan Remer (I IP,, 2 K), Erik Miller (1 IP).

It was a 6-0 victory, featuring three hits by the evidently fabulous (who knew?) Zachary Vincej, who now checks in at .453.

    wrong thread
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

I wonder if Vincej skips Dayton next year to head to Bakersfield, allowing Valor or Juan Perez to team with Brandon Dailey in the middle infield? Seems like someone there has to make a jump.

Ditto for Mejias-Brean at 3B with Rahier likely to be ready for full-time duties in Dayton. Junior Arias will either shift to the bench or 1B, I'd presume.

I too like what Vincej has done so far.... but we need to be sure to realize that he has 50 at bats and that he was a 37th rounder for a reason.

So I jumped the shark, but had me thinking, in relation to his 37th round selection and perhaps the most famous super late round draftee, Mike Piazza.

How did Mike Piazza start out his minor league career? Did he blow the doors off the thing right away, or did he develop for a few seasons before putting up huge numbers?

    At 20, he put up a .762 OPS in A- (57 games)
    At 21, he put up a .670 OPS in A+ 88 games)

    Then he takes off

    At 22, he put up a .884 OPS in A+ (117 games)
At 23, he put up a 1.000 OPS in AA & AAA combined (125 games)

At 24 he was up in the majors for good.

Anyhoo, I know it doesn't have anything to do with Vincej, but I found it interesting none the less.

A lot of that was because he was considered unsignable.

Doubtful. He's hitting .200 in the AZL. Compare that to what Arias did there.
