    2013 International Free Agents

A little more than two months to go until the July 2 International FA period begins, and there are a couple guys I'd love the Reds to take a long look at:

Eloy Jimenez OF from Dominican Republic who's big league comparison is Alex Rios.

Yeffry de Aza SS from Dominican Republic who's big league comparison is Brett Lawrie.

For more on the class, check out this article: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2013/...al-free-agents

    From MLBTR/BA:

If MLB announces that an international draft will take place in 2014, Baseball America's Ben Badler notes that teams like the Rangers, Yankees, Cardinals or Reds (who are likely to pick near the end of that draft's first round) could be wise to exceed the spending cap on international prospects this year. Such teams would lose their 2014 or '15 international draft first-rounder for going over the cap, but it could be worth it to get a jump on the non-American/Canadian talent market.
Would love the Reds to sign the two guys I named above. Middle infield should definitely be an area of focus in the International Signing Period, given the dearth of prospects in the system and in the current draft.

(In the Draft, I'd love the Reds to target JP Crawford, Tim Anderson and/or JaCoby Jones)

All mocks have Crawford going well before the Reds pick. I would not get my hopes up there. I also like Jones -- not sure what to think of Anderson at this point.

10 days from the International Signing Period. I'd really like to see the Reds target middle infielders and catchers. Specifically here are a few names to watch:

    Gleyber Torres SS
    Yelstin Gudino SS
    Yeysin Yrizarri SS
    Yeffrey de Aza SS
    Jose Herrera C

    and then a couple OF:

    Eloy Jimenez
    Leonardo Molina
    Micker Zapata

I really hope the Reds can make a splash in the market this year.

Here is a link from Sickels site:

    http://www.minorleagueball.com/2013/...rankings-video

Tons of info, and video, plus write ups.

Couple of names I like on there are: Mikey Edie OF, and Luis Asuncion OF. Interesting pitchers and SS on there too. As well as another Encarnacion at 3B.

From what I seen the Reds aren't linked to the big names, but you never know where the International stars will emerge from I guess.

It's been a long time since they've committed a lot of money, that was Yorman and Duran. Back then the message was investing in the farm and future. Seems now would be a good time to stoke those fires again.

Edit: uh, duh, Arolidis, dumm, uh, Chapman?

They spent $730,000 on one guy in January. So it isn't like they have just stopped spending. They just haven't landed a top 5 guy either.

Check that out, the Reds have the 29th least $$$ to spend. We aren't getting that Rios comp for sure.

The Reds haven't been linked to any of the top 35 or so guys.

Do you think that is more the new cap system, or that the Reds haven't had a real big ticket since Chapman.( who I think being that he was 22 and from Cuba shouldn't count)

I would say that Jacob Constante was a big ticket signing last year. Same for Jonathan Perez before him. But yeah, the cap certainly hurts them. There will probably be a few players who sign for more money than the Reds even have available.

I do agree about $750,000+ being substantial, but I just meant it pales to what Yorman and Duran got.

Though maybe they are a little gun shy about handing out those types of bonuses now?
