    Amir Garrett (hoops) update...

....heading back home it seems. And not ready to give up basketball just yet. Good for him.

Last month, St. John’s forward Amir Garrett announced that he would be transferring out of the program on his twitter feed.On Wednesday afternoon, the 6-foot-6 Los Angeles native tweeted out his transfer destination, telling the world “I’m coming home” while announcing that he will be enrolling at Cal St. Northridge.

C Trent had this a couple of weeks ago. Reds seem okay with things.

When Garritt announced his decision to leave St. John’s, Jeff Graupe, the Reds director of player development, made it clear that the team wasn’t pushing Garritt to quit basketball. Graupe told the Enquirer last month that he told Garritt to not rush to any decisions.

“I don’t want him looking back,” Graupe said last month. “He’s a really smart kid, he’ll be fine.”
Last month Garritt, a 22nd-round pick in the 2011 draft, announced he was leaving St. John’s, but did leave the door open to continuing his basketball career, even though he reported to the Reds’ complex in Arizona, where he was participating in extended spring training.

The 21-year-old Garrett will have to sit out a year before he is eligible to play for Reggie Theus’ Matadors. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Sweet, I'll have to make it over to Deering for a couple of games, sure hope Julie Connor is still hanging around the program.

I believe the way hoops transfers work is that while he will be unable to play in an official game all year, he can still practice with the team. In that case, Amir will still be playing basketball nearly full time.

Yea I am hoping he stays till the end of the year, though taking classes may require him to be in school.

The bad news is that this transfer potentially keeps him in college an extra year, possibly delaying the time until he does baseball full time.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob
