I think they made sensible decisions, and went for upside. I have no problems with it, and if the draft ends up being a bust, I won't be second-guessing them on it.

After reading scouting reports, and following the responses of the "pros" on twitter I'm very excited about the first 5 rounds. Was hard for me to find a negative thing said about any of those picks. The final 30 rounds look to have been filled with high upside guys coming off injury, or will be very difficult to sign. I'm okay with that. Like membengal said above, they seem to have aimed for the fences, and it's hard to complain about that.

I was just reading about Clay Fisher. That's an interesting pick if he signs.

Agreed. Given the depth of the organization, the team could afford to take some risks with this draft. That looks to be exactly what they did, going after the highest ceiling this time.

I am skeptical that he does. He retweeted his team's announcements for all of his teammates who were drafted but not his own. Unless the Reds bowl him over, I expect he will go back and rebuild his status.

Hopefully the team is expecting to finish better than the last couple previous years, which mean the team will be drafting later in the draft next year. Need to stock up on those high picks while you can. Although, truth be told, the Reds will most probably finish with a pick in the top ten next year as well.

Reds had the best draft I've ever seen for baseball names.

Just go through the full list of draftees, great names throughout.

Hopefully most of them live up to their impressive names.

    Re: 2017 Post-Draft Discussion

One rival executive didn’t mince words. “Cincinnati won the draft by far,” that executive said.

Not only is No. 2 overall pick Hunter Greene a potential All-Star, so are the Reds’ second and third picks – prep shortstop Jeter Downs and Wake Forest outfielder Stuart Fairchild, that exec asserted.

That executive went on to cite “bad scouting by other organizations” as reasons for the Reds’ haul. He said stars just kept falling into the Reds’ lap.

“Sometimes it just falls that way,” he said.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Other quote that stood out from article that Tom linked

Word is, Greene is likely to have a deal for close to the $7,193,200 slot. Greene was drafted out of Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, Calif. He was considered the top overall prospect by some.

Fairchild a potential all-star? Are we underestimating the guy?
