CINCINNATI -- Reds third baseman Juan Francisco was robbed at gunpoint on Tuesday in his native Dominican Republic, according to reports from that country.

Francisco, who was playing winter ball for the Licey club in the Dominican, was unharmed in the attack.

"Juan lives in an apartment here in the capital [Santo Domingo], but [Tuesday] night after the game, he wanted to visit his parents in Bonao and was robbed at gunpoint," Licey's GM, Fernando Ravelo, told the Associated Press. "But he wasn't hurt. "

I think its in these guys best interest not to ever go back home. Just too much poverty and jealousy of someone who has done well to make it worthwhile at all. If they have loved ones they want to see,fly them to the US for a visit.

Always easy to think that way.... not always easy to act that way. That is where they grew up. Where their culture is.

I know it's hard not to go back home. I'm sure they think it would never happen to me. This, along with the Ramos kidnapping, may make some think twice though next winter.

He's not just home for the offseason, he's playing winter ball there.
