My informed speculation: Cardinals press conference will concern future of pitcher Chris Carpenter.
Speculation in Cards Country that Carp is going to be retiring.

    Cue the "son" jokes.

If what I'm hearing is true, my response will be "Shelby Miller, son, take the reigns and roll with the opportunity".

Like him or hate him, Carpenter was a heck of a competitor and was a great playoff pitcher. One of the best competitors I've seen wear the Birds on the Bat.

If he retires im sure the cards try to retain him in some capacity. Obviously there is very little love for carp here but it is well known that guy is an excellent leader and coach. Especially when dissecting film. He is apparently a wizard at catching cards pitchers and other teams pitchers tipping their pitches.

I think it also leaves open the option to resign Lohse.

Wonder if this will impact Carpenter's friend, Rolen.

I'm about 80% sure it's about Carp. If it's about Garcia, then it's equally as bad.

Darn, I wanted to see the Reds kick him around as he aged poorly.

"Chris Carpenter can't throw any more at this time. Will seek more medical opinions, but it is doubtful he will pitch in 2013 season."

At the risk of showing my disengagement from RZ culture -- could someone please explain the origins of the (by now) infamous "How will Chris Carpenter explain this to his son?" comment. I never got the memo on that.

"Dusty had something to say, I had something to say, and the next thing you know all hell broke loose," Carpenter said "I come home and try to explain to my son why is Scott Rolen attacking me? Why is everybody pushing you into the net?"
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

After the brawl in 2010. Chris Carpenter dropped that line. It has been the gold standard for snark since then.
