Lotzkar and Ravin designated for assignment

The Reds have activated left-handed pitcher Sean Marshall and righty Johnny Cueto off the 60-day disabled list and have designated righties Kyle Lotzkar and Josh Ravin to make room on the 40-man roster.

    I love ya insider...

But shouldn't the lead be "Cueto and Marshall activated"?

    - Especially Marshall....that was a surprise to me.

Ravin's spring training outings were memorably dreadful and directly contributed to at least 2 losses there. If he had appeared in a Reds uniform this season, that would have meant the Reds were digging awfully deep into their minor-league pitching and the reasons to ever dig that deep are too painful to consider.

Too soon to now pronounce Lotzkar as the first Reds first rounder not to make the majors since...Chris Gruler?

(I know he's still technically only 23...but Gruler only just turned 30 last week)

So are those 2 gone or will they find their way back to the Reds minor leagues?

It's a shame too. It's not like he doesn't have the stuff or the talent. He just can't get past the injury bug.

If he passes waivers-he can be traded or sent to the minors after being released from the 40-I think.

Ravin has his share of issues, but spring training performance certainly isn't one of them. It is spring training for crying out loud.

When you're outrighted to the minors, you become a free agent at the end of the season.

If Lotzkar passes through waives we can at least end the talk of getting something for him in a trade.

I believe that is only for players who have been outrighted before or have 3 years of MLB experience/super 2 status (in other words, arbitration eligible).
