Reds lose 4-0 on a combined 4 hit shutout.

John Sterling: "If I'm a National League team, I'm setting my rotation to have my lefthanders face the Reds. You contain Voto (refused to pronounce Joey's name correctly the entire broadcast) and Bruce, there are no other threats in that lineup."

Sadly he's right. So were you KC61 in your analysis before the season began.

    Huh?

They have played one other time in Yankee Stadium (the original) and i think played very well in 2008 there.

you're right, i was confusing it with a previous series with another NL East team.

    .500, we meet again.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

The offense is broken. Gonna have to fix it. The pitching is now good enough, but the offense needs help. I think its too far along for it to just be a cycle or random.

No, I meant AL East. I'm clearly asleep at the wheel tonight.

I don't know how you fix it without an overhaul. The broken parts are too numerous to think a single change or two will make a difference.

I think if the Reds had a top-flight, right-handed cleanup hitter at 3rd or in left, it would make a huge difference. If they had a younger, healthy Rolen, for instance, the Rolen of the first half of 2010, they would be much more difficult to handle and a strong contender for the division title.

This would be a strong lineup, IMHO, not ideal, but competitive with any in the National League, especially when you consider the Reds' improved pitching:

    Phillips, 4
    Stubbs, 8
    Votto, 1
    first-half 2010 Rolen-level player, 5 or 7
    Bruce, 9
    Heisey, 7 or Frazier, 5
    Hanigan/Mesoraco, 2
    Cozart, 8

I don't think its an overhaul. Its a fine tuning. It could even be as simple as moving Phillips back to leadoff and move Bruce into cleanup and run with it. Dump Ludwick, get a replacement. Could he be any worse? Its a tweak, not an overhaul. But it is broken down. Like a car, it needs to go into the shop, but that doesn't mean the engine is blown. A simpler fix can often get the thing running right again.
