Hamilton struck out in his first at bat on a bunt attempt.

Actually, Phipps was 3-3 with 2 HR. And 6 RBIs. Last night he had two doubles and a HR. I guess that constitutes hot, which he was certainly due for.

Valaika also had 3 hits, but the Bats had to hang on to win 9-8. Hoover had to hold 'em in the 9th for the save.

    The Drew Cisco bandwagon is ready to board. Today: 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K. His previous start: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K.

Jesus Adames has been sharp in relief, and Billings leads 3-0 in the eighth. Zach Vincej's two hits put him at .425. Robert Maddox has homered.

Ismael Guillon made his first appearance for Dayton, and it looked like this: 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K. Yowsa.

The Dragons won, 5-1. Waldrop doubled and homered. Silva whacked a pair of doubles.

And speaking of hot pitchers, Wirfin Obispo is going today for Pensacola. He has been ace-like in his last five starts. (He's had only had six.)

Very odd that Hamilton would attempt a bunt in his first at bat and leading off the game. Did I miss something?

First-place Billings closed out the shutout, 5-0. Cisco, Adames and Chacin combine on a 2-hitter. Carlos Sanchez was 2-2. Daniel Pigott, who has been hitting cleanup, drove in 3.

Hamilton walked and was picked off in the third. The record isn't coming easily.

    Why is that odd?

He was trying to bunt for a base hit. Not anything out of the ordinary about that.

Drew Cisco was my 2012 breakout minor leaguer of the year pick. Just sayin'.

Good news: Hamilton singles to reach base again on his third at-bat.

Bad news: There were runners at first and second, so now with the bases loaded, there's no base open to steal.

A single brings home two runners. Hamilton is now at second base with one out and an unobstructed view of third base. There's a pitching change currently, so Hamilton will have to wait for his opportunity for the 144th swipe of the season.

I wasn't specific enough, that he was bunting with two strikes is odd as you indicated he struck out on a bunt attempt. Unless I misinterpreted your post.

Billy Hamilton is getting better with the bat. He's not the same player we saw 20 games ago.
