For Those Who May Have Forgotten

Plenty of minor trades have been going during the Krivsky era, so I thought I'd briefly go over what we've lost in some of the recent acquisitions.

Bobby Basham - pitched two games and went on DL for the year for Padres
Jeff Stevens - unimpressive for Indians A- team
Ben Kozlowski - had some success in AA for Dodgers
Cody Ross - overall, played poorly for the Marlins (by the way, does anyone know what we received for him yet?)
Brandon Roberts - played very well for Twins A+ team
Travis Chick - played well for Mariners AA
Justin Germano - played extremely well for Phillies AAA
Zach Ward - overall, pitched poorly for Twins A- team
Kyle Edens - was almost unbelievably bad for Angels in AA

Here are some players that have been released, too:
Allan Simpson - solid year in AAA
Bubba Nelson - so-so year for Padres AAA
Luke Hudson - mediocre year for Royals
Jacob Cruz - good year for Mets AAA
Frank Menechino - poor performance in brief AAA appearances
Tony Womack - played very little and did nothing noteable
Terrence Long - decent numbers for Yankees AAA
Rick White - average stats for Phillies
Esteban Yan - terrible for Royals AAA
Quinton McCracken - average numbers in limited AAA time for Twins

Thank you. I see so much bashing of Krivsky's moves for average major-league talent. But he gave up nothing. Really, from what I can tell, the only ones who have a shot at anything are Ward, Germano, Chick, and maybe Hudson. Of those Germano is the only who showed any signs of doing such. Even he is back of the rotation at best. I think Krivsky has done a wonderful job. He paid nothing and also served to clean up the farm system. Just look at some examples of overpaying with minor leaguers (Reds Sox, Padres, etc.) and you can appreciate it.

Burns is the pitching version Brandon Larson. He sucked out loud in the majors.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

    Nice list. Thanks.
FWIW Josh Hancock probably belongs on that list.

On the one hand 80 innings of 4.00 era is something the reds sure could have used, but if you look at the way Hancock was used it looks far less impressive. For a basically 500 team out of 94 games he appeared in his team only one 21 of them. He was being used in losses and not being used for long stretches in most of those games.

My favorite part about this deal was that we got a minor leaguer and cash.

Thanks for reassuring me, because I was starting to wonder about Krivsky.

Mets Last time I checked he was still on the roster. I think they even had to use him a time or two when Pedro was hurt last.
