FYI the deadline for amateur draft picks to sign, except for players who have exhausted college baseball eligibility is next Friday, July 12. I would love to see Collins, Morales and/or Abreu sign.

How they are doing depends on what their draft strategy is. I could be wrong, but it appears to me that the Reds are putting more emphasis on Latin players in the last few years. Thus, there is less need to sign the lower round, long shots to fill out minor league rosters. If I am right, then the Reds are opting for quality over quantity in the draft. They hoped to save enough pool money to lure one or two players away from college commitments. Since we don't know what is happening with negotiations, your guess is as good as mine as to how many the Reds will sign. My hunch is that the Reds will use all of their pool money and will end up with 27-30 signed.

As Doug pointed out, the Cardinals appeared to have a different strategy in drafting players that they felt certain would sign without need for a heavy financial incentive.

    Abreu still a possibility?

Likewise, with their available funds, Callis tweets that the Reds appear to be targeting 14th-round choice Willie Abreu. The University of Miami commit reportedly has a power bat and arm.

According to the Link, the Reds could offer $390,400 under their limit. They could go to $692,735 w/o a draft pick penalty.

All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Really hope they can sign Abreu this week.

An OF of Abreu, Reynoso and Rosa could be fun to watch next year in Dayton.

Does anyone know what college players still haven't sign who no longer have eligibility? Not sure why they'd hold out so long, except perhaps, to see if there's any additional money left to sign for.
