    Brock Dykxhoorn

    From the Toronto Sun

    http://www.torontosun.com/2012/06/06...order-for-reds

    From the article,

    “He’s 17, going on 37,” dad said.

“Brock could always throw strikes. You can’t defend against a walk. I never allowed him to throw curve balls until last year. Brandon played against pitchers throwing breaking balls at a young age. Some boys wrecked their arms.”

Dykxhoorn says his son has the frame, size and desire. Now, it’s a matter of mastering his pitches.

Good to hear that he is 6'8". I am so tired of the Reds only targeting short pitchers.

Actually if you're under 6'4", you'll be on the short side with our club these days.

I went to the Google translator and, while it wouldn't translate the name, does give you a sound clip of the name being pronounced. On the English side, it pronounced Dix Hoorn (which I expected). From the Dutch side, it was more Dikes Harn. My guess that they've anglicized it towards "Dix" and probably it's just Horn.

I'm glad that I am not. Sign me up Walt, I'm younger than Jamie Moyer and my arm is rested.

The decision to attend college was not always an easy one for the big dutchman. Shortly after being selected by the Cincinnati Reds, Brock was leaning towards signing a contract and beginning his professional career. The Reds were pressing him hard and it was something that was difficult for Brock to pass up. "I decided to attend university over pro ball because I realized that you can't replace the college experience...I want to be at my best when I enter pro baseball and I felt that WVU would be the best place for me to mature and reach my potential before starting my pro career. In addition, I did not want to waste my academic ability by not going to university"

    Good for him.
Attended 1976 World Series in my Mother's Womb. Attended 1990 World Series Game 2 as a 13 year old. Want to take my son to a a World Series Game in Cincinnati in my lifetime.

Is that translated from Dutch (or French) or something? Strange way to talk. Can't blame a kid for wanting the college experience though. Especially a 20th rounder who wasn't offered a big signing bonus. Good luck to him.
