I am surprised that Seth Mejias-Brean didn't make the list. While he certainly isn't the caliber of prospect that Ervin is, he did do this last week:
.500/.593/1.091 with 2 doubles, a triple, 3 HR and 5 BB's.

Jim Shonerd: This was a really, really strong week for both pitchers and hitters. Ervin and Barnes would've been No. 1 some weeks, but this week they're down at 4 and 5. Mejias-Brean was a tough one to cut, but being a 22-year-old in low A does work against him. Now, he's got four homers in his last seven games. Is this legit or just a hot streak? That's the question. He only had three all year through mid-July. It's not surprising that his 2013 power numbers have fallen off given his move from an offense-happy environment in Billings last year to Dayton this year, but he'll have to keep showing more respectable power than he did through the season's first 80+ games. (He was slugging .387 thru July 17, before this barrage began)
Just to add to the chat response, Billings was the least hitter friendly park in the league last season. While the league on the whole is certainly hitter friendly, Billings isn't.

They have 5 home runs at home. 19 on the road. They have 32 doubles on the road. 17 at home.
Billings used to be a hitters paradise. Not anymore.

Billings got a new ballpark a few years ago. It has been rather pitcher friendly, while a lot of the other parks in the league are joke stadiums (they played in one the other day that wasn't even 300 feet down the line) and at altitude.

Reds prospects almost never skip Dayton. The Dayton franchise always gets favorable treatment when it comes to making sure top prospects spend some time there.
Seth Mejias-Brean is already my breakout candidate for next season. When that annual thread comes up I have my name.
The last 2 Big Time College bats did in Grandal and Alonso. Leake never spent a day there nor did Cingrani. Lots of precedent recently for him skipping Dayton.
First, as noted above a few of the guys have skipped Dayton recently.
Second, I don't think it is the Dayton "franchise" that gets favorable treatment, it may just be that the Midwest League is a very difficult league for hitters. Between weather the first two months, big parks, and a lot of top HS/Int'l arms there, it is one of the toughest leagues to hit in. It's a great test for our younger hitters.
