Thursday April 3rd minor league Opening Day updates

I'm getting this one started early! All four of the Reds full season squads open tomorrow. Louisville plays at 2:00, the rest open at night.

Homer Bailey is scheduled to pitch for Louisville tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon.

Scott Carroll is starting for Dayton.

I'm not sure about who's starting for Sarasota and Chattanooga.

My guess is the Reds pitchers struggle franchise wide(Cueto,Bailey,Thompson and Smith).

    You were wrong:

    Cueto 7 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 10 K...carried a perfect game into the 6th inning.

    Homer Bailey so far: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

Homer gave up a solo dinger, and has not k'd anyone. Through 4 54 pitches 36 strikes

    Bruce 0-2 k

Starting to get plenty concerned about Homer's lack of K's

On another note, I find it very interesting that Bruce is in CF and Dickerson is in RF, given Dickerson's noted defensive abilities. Do the Reds still see Bruce as the franchise player in center?

Hoping Jordan Smith does well. Guy was left off every top 40 list for the team, yet was very solid at Dayton, doesn't walk guys, ground ball tendencies. His WHIP last year was excellent and I'm rooting for another good season at Sarasota.

By the way, happy 21st birthday to the youngest member of the Louisville Bats -- Mr. Jay Bruce.

My guess is Bailey isn't throwing with enough "umph" yet which is probably causing little in the way of k's early. Does seem like he is setting his foot down right, which is improvement.

    About what I expected.

Same here. High BB/High K I can deal with, but High BB/Low K is awfully troubling from a guy who was supposed to save the franchise just a year or so ago. Hopefully a year in Louisville will help him figure out what it takes to put away more disciplined hitters.

What were you expecting from Cueto?

Right now it is low bb/k:.

As Homer's velocity rises and he starts tossing 96-98 heaters more repeatedly, he will turn some of those groundout/flyouts into k's.

Though I think Homer should be required to put up a k/9 of 9 in AAA before he can be called up. After the deficit he has built for himself, that means some time working out of it.
