    Name your DH line up

DH THOUGHTS: Baker hasn't decided who will be used as the designated hitter for the nine games coming up in interleague play in New York, Toronto and Cleveland.

"I've got to talk to the guys," Baker said. "If you haven't been doing it, it's sort of like pinch-hitting four times. I've got to find out who's the better pinch-hitter, who knows how to prepare.

"It also has to do with the ballpark. Yankee Stadium is short in right and deeper in left. Toronto has turf. All those are factors."

Griffey, Adam Dunn and Javier Valentin probably will share the DH-ing duty against right-handers.

I'll pass on Javy as our DH in any situation...

I see this as a good way to ease Keppinger back in the line up personally. Don't stretch him at SS quite yet

    DH Jeff Keppinger
    CF Jay Bruce
    RF Griffey
    2B Phillips
    LF Dunn
    3B EE
    1B Votto
    C Bako
    SS Janish

In another article Dusty mentioned Norris Hopper as a possible DH candidate. No, I'm not kidding unfortunately.

Griffey probably should be pretty much the whole time, based on his legs and his lack of range in the outfield.....of course that means Patterson gets to play and bat leadoff...

    Aw...shucks.

I was hoping for any line up that didn't include Corey Patterson...

if we had to have patterson I'd go

    SS Keppinger
    RF Bruce
    DH Griffey
    2B Phillips
    LF Dunn
    3B EE
    1B Votto
    C Bako
    CF Patterson

Heck if Keppinger is still hurt we may see the best defense up the middle we've had in 10 years with Patterson Janish and Phillips, (Bruce in RF is nice too )

Re: Name your DH line up

Assuming Kepp is healthy, I'd probably go:

    SS Keppinger
    LF Dunn
    RF Bruce
    1B Votto
    3B Encarnacion
    DH Griffey
    2B Phillips
    C Ross
    CF Patterson

Frankly, as bad as Patterson has been, I'd take him over Janish. I'd rather get Junior out of the defensive lineup than Keppinger and Janish hits like Patterson, but without any power and no real expectation of regression to the mean.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

good DH team was the 2005 Reds:

    DH FeLo
    DH Aurilio
    DH Casey
    DH Jr
    DH Dunn
    DH Kearns
    DH WMP
    DH EdE
    DH Valentin

that Konerko/Meat/Casey team had some possibilities too.

Assuming that Griffey is recovered from the flu:

    vs. RHP
    Votto 1b
    Bruce rf
    B.Phillips 2b
    Griffey dh
    Dunn lf
    Encarnacion 3b
    Bako c
    Cabrera ss
    Patterson cf

    vs. LHP
    Hopper cf
    Bruce rf
    B.Phillips 2b
    Griffey dh
    Dunn lf
    Encarnacion 3b
    Votto 1b
    Ross c
    Cabrera ss

    If Griffey is still sick:

    vs. RHP
    Hopper lf
    Bruce rf
    B.Phillips 2b
    Dunn dh
    Encarnacion 3b
    Votto 1b
    Bako c
    Cabrera ss
    Patterson cf

    vs. LHP
    Hopper cf
    Bruce rf
    B.Phillips 2b
    Dunn lf
    Encarnacion 3b
    Votto 1b
    Ross c
    Cabrera ss
    A.Phillips dh

Yikes! You'll have to pitch Satchell Paige since no one will be in the field.

Re: Name your DH line up

    Hopper CF
    Keppinger SS
    Griffey DH
    Bruce RF
    Phillips 2nd
    Dunn LF
    Encarnacion 3rd
    Votto 1st
    Bako C

I wouldn't want Griffey batting 3rd but we all know that's where he'll end up.

Tonight Mike Mussina right hander starting,

Good to see Griffey feeling better....too bad he's still in the 3 hole where he doesn't belong.
