Is that even one (in-season) week's worth of revenue for them? Chump change.

A lot of the plaintiffs are on borrowed time, though.

No question they can afford it, but that's not the point. To what extent are they liable? Since it was a private settlement I don't know what evidence the other side had against them. I think it was fair and they should all move on

Roughly $180,000 per person in the lawsuit. Chump change. A joke. The NFL must have been ecstatic to sign this settlement.

Pretty much. The NFL had the luxury of time and deep enough pockets to drag this out for a long time, many of the plaintiffs are dealing with serious medical issues and simply couldn't afford to walk away. I just hope the NFL does right by these guys and makes sure they have access to all of the medical care and disability coverage that they need.

I saw a tweet the other day about how strange it is the the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment - WWF for you older guys who haven't paid attention since they lost their lawsuit with the World Wildlife Foundation over the WWF name) has better health insurance and benefits for their retirees than the NFL does.

I don't think the NFL is required morally or otherwise to provde lifetime health insurance to its players

This is chump change to the NFL.

The bigger, more serious issue, is the inevitable lawsuit directed against colleges and high schools. Most of them don't have the pockets the NFL does, and liability findings could prompt a sea change in how the sport is played at the amateur levels (if it's played at all).

Let's hope they stay away from the schools. Have the kids sign something where they acknowledge that they're volunteering to play a dangerous sport and leave it at that

As much as I love football, that's actually probably a good thing.

That said, I would think the legal standard for someone engaging in a voluntary activity as a student would be considerably different than the standard for an "employee." Probably another reason the NCAA should avoid direct monetary compensation to their athletes.

Well, that protects them from future issues, but not any of them from past issues.

Agree 100%. If football ever dies it will be because it becomes too expensive for high schools to still play it.
