Re: 5/14/12 - Reds at Braves

Early in the game, there was a broadcast graphic that showed that the Braves have scored 56 runs in their last 9 games.

At least twice tonight, the Braves announcers (Chip Caray, Tom Glavine, and Joe Simpson) have said that the Braves have averaged 8 runs over the last 9 games.

Anyone want to work through that math?

Triple for Bourn with one out.

Based on nothing but personal observation, I'd much prefer Hanigan behind the dish for Bailey.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

    Bollocks but Bourne has balls.

Mesoraco not exactly making the case for more playing time.

Would have been an amazing play if it had been made. I don't think that any catcher makes that play regularly. The throw was about 3' to the right of the plate on a hop, and an instantaneous reach and then cover of the plate hit there at the same time as Bourne's headfirst slide.

Color me less than impressed with Mesoraco, to this point.
This is the ol Left Hander rounding third and heading for home.

I agree. I wonder what the splits are for the pitchers with the two catchers this season? Probably not a fair comparison given who they are catching...maybe there is a better statistic to illustrate your gut feeling.

Mes needs to catch that ball. Let's put it that way.

Agree with the sentiment, but amazing goes a bit too far. Outstanding yes, amazing no.
    Thank goodness for baseball.

If it hits your glove, you have to catch it. That rule goes for baseball in general.

Bourne won't get away with that most of the time...

Could the Fox Sports Ohio Girls be dressed anymore conservatively? Surprised they haven't got them in burkas.

Mes should have caught the ball.

If he doesn't get the out, no big deal. But the throw was catchable, he should have caught it.
