How Reds draftees are faring in the CWS

    * 3B Seth Mejias-Brean (Rd 8) has had a solid showing so far, going 4-9, with a double, 2 Runs Scored, an RBI and a a SAC bunt in Arizona's two-game sweep of St. John's to move on to the CWS.

    * CF Daniel Pigott (Rd 9) was 3-8 over two games, with a HR, 2 Runs scored, 3 RBIs, a SB and a SAC Fly as Florida swept NC St. to move on to Witchita also.

    * CF Beau Amaral (Rd 7) was 1-8 with a Run Scored in UCLA's sweep of TCU, while RF Jeff Gelalich (Rd 1s) was 1-7 with a 2B, a walk and 2 Runs Scored. The Bruins advanced also.

    * RF Adam Matthews (Rd 29) was 0-3 with a BB and a Run Scored in USCj's only game so far (a win). The Gamecocks need to take one of two games from Oklahoma today to move on.

    * RHP Joey Housey (Rd 27) has not appeared in the two games Oregon has split with Kent St. They play the deciding game tonight to see who advances.

Saw Pigott and Brean, both good fielders and pesky hitters, Pigott bats second and Brean was hitting 5th, both are slender fellas

Just to be clear, the actual CWS has not started yet. The above stats are from the regional rounds. CWS starts this week.

Yeah, meant to mention that they were in the "Super regionals." but forgot. With Mejias-Brean, Pigott, Amaral and Gelalich all moving on to Witchita, it looks like 40% of our Top 10 picks won't be signed for the start of the short season openers, but they've got pretty good excuses.

Matthews was 1-2 with a run scored and 2 BBs as South Carolina won the early game today over Oklahoma to earn a spot in Witchita.

All you guys need to get out a little more, the CWS is in OMAHA. Not Wichita...... born in Omaha and frequent the CWS, so hope it wasn't all the sudden moved to Kansas!

It wasnt the CWS, but there was some tape delays of UCLA and Ore St. on FSN, Gelalich and Amaral both showed good patience and are hard hitting OFs who cover a lot of ground. Saw Matt Boyd in a game against Washington, he came on in the 8th and he has a good curve and pin point fastball, he was painting the corners.

Did I hear that Kent State eliminated Oregon? So Housey can talk to the Reds now.

Yup. First MAC team since mid-70's to make CWS. It's awesome. Stony Brook in as well makes it two northern teams. That's huge because they are at such a disadvantage.

Just looked it up, that 1976 EMU team had nine players taken in the MLB draft from that squad. Four played in the majors (Bob Welch, Bob Owchinko, Glenn Gulliver & John Martin). Welch & Owchinko were first round picks, albeit in successive years.

UCLA is about to start playing Stony Brook in the opening game of the CWS. Jeff Gelalich and Beau Amaral play for UCLA.

Amaral and Gelalich are both 1-2 so far against Stony Brook. Gelalich had a bases loaded single in the 1st which scored Amaral and another.

Amaral finished 2 - 4 and was hit by a pitch. Two singles. One run scored and one driven in. Gelalich was 1 -4 with a walk. A single. One run score and two driven in. He stole a base and was caught stealing. Good news. UCLA routed Stony Brook.
