Cincinnati Reds & Washington Nationals continue pursuit of LHR Mike Gonzalez who would fit in nicely with both post-season contenders in '13
Weren't we interested in him several years ago?

“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”
Gonzalez is a lefty who last year was very effective against lefties, not so much against righties.
.863 OPS against v. righties.
.525 OPS against v. lefties.
Boras listed as his agent. Will be 35 in May of 2013.

Could be a nice old LOOGY
Go BLUE!!!
Walt's still got his foot on the gas pedal.
Load up on pitching. Leave nothing to chance.

I would like having Mike Gonzalez in the bullpen. I hope Walt can get him to Cincy.
Never hurts to have a quality veteran LOOGY around. Frees up Marshall for a more robust role and allows Cingrani to continue to develop in the minors.
Final piece to the puzzle is a left-handed reliever (presuming Aroldis is going to be a starter). I love this; hope it happens.
Everyone will love this move until opening day when Gonzalez is brought into face Josh Hamilton to protect a lead and gives up a three run homer to lose the game...

He'd be a great fit. Man, it seems as if he's been around forever. Are you sure he didn't pitch against the Reds in the '79 NLCS?

Can I just say that we are in bizarro new world when the Reds and Nats are two top contenders competing for a LOOGY? I like it!
Carry on.

Glad to hear this. I think a LOOGY is the last piece and Gonzalez is now the best available.
Not to read too much into this, but-
Appears Reds do indeed want to add a lefty reliever. Apparently Arredondo as a "right handed LOOGY" isn't enough for them.
Also appears Reds are not counting on Chapman for the bullpen. Reds wouldn't need another lefty with Chappy and Marshall both in the pen.
Just conjecture based on the Gonzalez rumor.
Not anymore. Dan Lozano is now. (Votto's agent?)

There was rumors earlier this offseason that was saying he's mostly interested in rejoining the Nationals. I'd say this signing is a longshot.

I hope this gets done. If not who would be another loogy we could sign? Aurthur Rhodes? he did good in 2010 but hes almost pushing 40 right?
