Billings lost 5-2. Valiquette struckout three batters while not walking a batter in 3.1 innings. Michael Jones went 1-for-3 with a triple and walk as he continues to hit well early on. Jones is an interesting guy. He was compared to Eric Davis athletically coming out of HS. He's still only 20-years old, so he still has plenty of time to put it together.

They may have had a large announced crowd, but it wasn't even close to being full. I was 11 rows behind home plate, and I counted at least a dozen seats wide open in the row in front of us, along with 6 seats open in our row. The Dragons' Lair was sparsely populated too. I don't understand why those season ticket holders behind home plate don't find someone to use their tickets.

Overall, pretty pathetic day for the Dragons. Gressick was horrible in the 1st inning, but buckled down after that. Kainer had a nice double, Parker or Turner had a double, can't remember which one, and Stubbs had a bunt single.

I went to last night's game and asked about getting just one ticket to today's game, was told it was all sold out and to check back right before game time today. Well, I live 45 miles away so I kept checking ticketmaster - no luck. I did get a ticket for July 4th, tho...

Gardner got hit around in the first inning, so a nice recovery by him to make it into the 6th.

I'll chalk it up to post-promotion jitters, though remembering that his stuff isn't nearly as good as what it once was.

It was his first start since being promoted, but remember this was his 2nd start in AAA. He made a spot start earlier in the year.

Yeah, but I imagine there's an emotional difference to a player between:

"Hey, we need you to toss a game in Louisville because its your turn in the rotation and they're short a guy"

    and

"Hey, you've earned a promotion to AAA. You're now one step away from realizing your dream as a major league baseball player. Go get 'em kid."

I used to say "who" after the name Mike Jones for about 6 straight months, nice to see it brought back.

Even after only two starts, I think its safe to say the trade was, straight up, McBeth for Denorfia.

It was on Thursday and I got one.

And it looks NOTHING like Jay Bruce.

It looks like George Grande at age 35.

Rafael Sanchez also went 2-for-4 with a double and single in that game. He's off to a fast start. Nefi Soto continues to destroy the ball...he's now 9-for-18 in four games with three doubles and zero walks or strikeouts. It was said in his scouting report that he has good plate discipline.

Robbie Nickols is a guy I like. 6'5" lefty with plus velocity. I hope to see him promoted to Billings by the end of the year.
