I haven't seen 7 psychopaths yet. I saw the cast and assumed it was a documentary.

But the only movie that possibly made me laugh more in 2012 than Seven Psychopaths was 21 Jump Street. The cast was a wet dream of my favorite actors. Gonna need to give In Bruges another try...
I did too. Rockwell killed me, and I'd watch Tom Waits act in absolutely anything. Goes without saying that Walken is the best.

Finally saw Flight. Thought it was really good. Pretty accurate portrayal of addicts.

Did anyone else burst into laughter when John Goodman screamed "Is this amateur hour!?" at the hospital?

What did you think of the ending? From the people whose movie judgements I trust the most, I've heard that it's a pretty solid flick until a super formulaic ending...

Yes, the ending was lame. I honestly could have done without the Hallmark crap... didn't really feel authentic. The rest of the movie was great, especially Washington's portrayal of an alcoholic.

On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969)
This was the only James Bond movie I hadn't seen so decided after all these years to give it a try. First off: They could have taken out the first part of the pre-main title scene with M, Q and Moneypenny and just started with Bond driving then chasing Tracy. Loved the line "This never happens to the other fellow".

Main titles - meh. Obviously they were rehashing scene bits from previous Bond movies to provide some fan comfort. Then the movie moves along quickly with good action and plot.

Lazenby shines when he's not trying to imitate Connery. After seeing OHMSS I have to believe he would've done quite well in Diamonds Are Forever. Rigg's character, Tracy, takes a while to like, but then she, as Bond says to her father, needs a psychiatrist.

The whole scene of Bond back at HQ, the interplay with M and Moneypenny, handing in his resignation, looking over mementos, made me squeamish - seemed too forced.

The rest of the movie, the stunning alpine scenery, action scenes on the slopes, other characters (Telly as Blofeld, Bunt, and Angels of Death were great), and finally the wedding/going to honeymoon at the end redeem the time spent in watching this flick. In summary, this was a very good Bond adventure.

How does it rank? Right smack in the middle!

    Dredd (2012)
Purchased a 3D HDTV LCD and a 3D bluray last month - so this was one of the movies I was really looking forward to seeing in all it's gory. It didn't disappoint.

First, Dredd never takes off the helmet and that pretty much wipes out the bad taste of the Stallone flick. Urban, in his best Eastwood snarl, performed Dredd's character really well. As an actor, it was probably the worse role to be put in, having to convey emotion (or in Dredd's case lack there of) w/o use of the eyes. You really get the feel of the hopelessness of the Mega-City One's future - the vast wasteland. Despite that, most of the action scenes are in the Peach Trees so it feels just as claustrophobic with the judges trying to get out. Hopefully, there will be a sequel, but just like John Carter, the disappointing box office might have doomed it.

This could be its own thread!

I don't think Skyfall should be above Connery's best early work and I think GoldenEye deserves more respect, but I love how high you have the extremely campy You Only Live Twice, A View to a Kill, and Live and Let Die. Three of my favorites!

Well, to be honest I would have not placed AVTAK so high if I were not a Duranie - Moore was really showing his age but the plot was pretty entertaining.
Skyfall might drop down the list in the coming years (just like QOS).

    Prometheus (2012)
OK, let's get this fact out of the way: I'm not a big fan of Alien. So, why did I buy the bluray of the "prequel"? I didn't see it in the theater, but the trailer looked fantastic and interesting. Sometimes that is enough to fork over my hard earned money.

What did I think? The plot seemed try to cover too much back story. But the cinematography was fantastic - wished I bought the 3D bluray for that reason. There were strong characters with Dr. Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and the android David (Michael Fassbender) as standouts. I want to say that the first half was better than the second half of the movie. About the last 20 minutes were put on mute and I enjoyed even more. Look like they will try for a sequel since we see Shaw and David ride off to find answers. I would personally like more on the "Engineers". The deleted and alternate scenes were IMHO actually better esp the beginning with the Engineers. Overall 2.5/5

I loved Prometheus, but I'm a huge Alien fan and especially love Alien lore.
