Will Joey Votto hit 40 HRs this year?

He's got 18 after 79 games and is tied for the most in the NL.

    No I don't think so.

Even a bigger queston, will Rod Barrjas (11) end up with more than Ryan Braun (10)

Nah I'd say he will end up with 32-33, just a hunch. I'm thinking he won't get pitched to as much the later it gets.

If Rolen keeps hitting, won't be all that easy to pitch around him.

Man, I love watching Votto play.

40? Nah. 35 is a real possibility though.

Not only do I think people will prefer to face Votto more than Rolen later on but I also forgot to add 46 home games the 1st half and only 33 road games so far. 2 more games to go at the halfway point puts us at 46 home games and 35 road.

I expect Votto will end up with around 32-34 HRs.

Bigger qusetion is if Rolen will stay healthy enough (and productive enough) to join him in the +30 crowd. It'd be huge if the team could mine 30+ from Votto, 30+ from Rolen, and 25 from Bruce.

40 is probably his ceiling but I could see him touching it a time or two in his career. I do think he's turning into a consistent 30-35 home run machine, though.

The fact that he isn't #1 in All-Star 1B voting tells me all I need to know about the current voting system. I know it's the fans game, but this is criminal.

It wouldn't surprise me too terribly much if Jay turned things on the 2nd half and got up over 30 homers as well.

    Not if he keeps slumping.

I say no, and he won't need to.

30-35 homers and all other numbers progressing along the same plane they are now makes him an mvp candidate.

I'd say no. Or better yet, I'd put the chances at 20%. But it's pretty nice to know we've got a guy in the Gonzalez, Teixeira mold who is going to be around for awhile.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Yea if he continues this all year; I'd hope that contract isn't far behind that keeps him in Cincinnati until he's about 32.

Worth noting...14 of Joey's 71 career home runs have been against the Cubs...with 7 of those occurring at Wrigley Field.

Outside of GABP, his favorite hitting venue by far.
