Peter King did a lengthy article on the health problems being endured by the 1986 Cincinnati Bengals team. Long but interesting.

I read the article and have a couple of thoughts.
It would be very interesting to see a knee replacement and hip replacement percentage of NFL players as opposed to the general public. How much higher is that.
I would imagine that the aches and pains are much more prevalent in NFL players than the general public, but at the same time I know as you age you begin to stiffen up and age.
The concussion thing is very scary. I think that is the most dangerous thing associated with football. Especially for the decades until lately when the NFL seems to have made concussions a point of concern.
I would also like to see a study as to whether depression is more prevalent in the NFL as opposed to the rest of society.
I think its sad to see how former NFL players are struggling today, but I can't help but think they've been part of the reason why the NFL has taken so long to address concussions and protect players. Far to often, we've heard former players complain about how the NFL has gone soft whenever rule changes have been implemented to ban dangerous play and protect players. I'd like to see someone from the media ask them tough questions about their own views and whether its contributed to a culture which favors "toughness" over player safety.
