Walczak may be emerging as a stuff guy for the bullpen down the road.

Not too worried about Lorenzen. He's in learning mode, and the AFL is a grind.

Both pitchers are converted outfielders. It takes a while for those guys.

fwiw, from a former pro scout a few weeks ago:

    Bernie Pleskoff ‏@BerniePleskoff 8 Oct

##Reds Yorman Rodriguez is 3 for 3 today so far with two singles and a double. Nice, easy, short stroke.

Yorman putting up a good AFL season is big on the trade front in my opinion.

That is what he is doing in AFL, I did not look at the actual website, just been following on here.

He has walked 3 times and struck out 16. ouch. Nevermind on my having a big AFL season comment. This dude stinks.

Kris Bryant, the Cubs prospect has been incredible.

I bet you thought Mike Trout stunk in 2011 too, right? That crappy player hit .245/.279/.321 with 5 walks and 33 strikeouts.

People seem to get too worked up over fall ball. I read earlier today that Lorenzen isn't even a Reds Top 25 prospect because of his AFL season. In the grand scheme of things, the AFL represents a very, very small portion of what these guys are going to do at the minor league level.

Understood, I was just under the impression Y-Rod was having a good AFL season, and then found out he was stinking up the joint.

Are there any other examples of great players having crap seasons in the AFL and then lighting up the majors other than Trout? I am not asking this to be snarky, I am genuinely curious and do not know how to find that information.

    "This dude stinks"

LOL...its the AFL - hardly a do all be all representation. By this logic we should just dump Lorenzen now and walk away from him. I admit to being surprised at that line myself since every recap seemed to show him with a hit or two or three. Must just be recapping his line here when he does get a hit. That shows how much improtance I place on the AFL, though. I follow the minors from rookie ball through AAA but only casually pick up AFL news.

Are there any who are younger? It is likely an easier number to count.

I think statistics will bear it out that the sooner a prospect hits the majors the more likely they are going to be an all-star player...
