    High on: Mike Leake

    From THT. Excerpt:

Mike Leake is a player I find very interesting at this point in the season. We all know that he's the first pitcher in a very long time to skip the minors entirely, and despite being a top draft pick, he isn't said to have top-notch stuff. In addition, his 2010 resume is quite strange. He has a 3.92 ERA, courtesy of two seemingly dominant (though lucky) starts and one seemingly terrible (though unlucky) start:

Oliver sees Leake posting a 3.68 ERA the rest of the way, and while that might be a little optimistic, an ERA around 4.00 (with significant upside) certainly seems attainable
That would be the best Red pitcher debut since... Scott Williamson? Tom Browning?

Although it would be great if the Reds could trade him for Pujols.

It's really exciting to see the recent surge of success the Reds are having in their farm system.

If you can make a first round draft pick, have him skip the minors and post around a 4.00 ERA in his first year .. that is amazing. I'll take that every year.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

Good stuff, Nate. Thanks for posting it.

If Leake posts a 3.68 ERA the rest of the way he'll give Jason Heyward some strong competition in the NL Rookie of the Year race.

95% of baseball fans know who Jason Heyward is. 5% of baseball fans know who Mike Leake is. I think thats all you need to know when considering ROY.

The BBWAA votes for ROY, not the fans.

Some writers are good, some are lazy. These are the same guys who give the best offensive players gold gloves at their respective positions aren't they?

I'm so intrigued with seeing Leake, that I just got done buying tickets for the Weds game at Minute Maid. I've seen Harangatang & Arroyo pitch live, but I'm really looking forward to seeing Leake.

1st row seats right next to the Reds dugout. Nice. :O)

No. They don't vote on the GG. That would be your managers. Equally as ill informed at times, which is quite scary.

So that would be Leake, Stubbs and a couple of minor leaguers for Pujols? I think we're going to need a new stadium to pull that one off. If only Pujols had gone to Moehler.
