    Homer down, Lopez up

    From the Reds:

The Reds today optioned to Louisville RHP Homer Bailey and recalled from Louisville IF Pedro Lopez.

Bailey wasn't going to pitch until after the break.

good move it'll get him a start over the all star break on regular rest to keep him sharp.

If Narron was still here, I'd say don't count on it, but with Hamilton and Castro both out, there may be an AB or 2 to go around.

with hamilton now out freel has to move to outfield full time till he returns. This leaves us with only keppinger off the bench to back up at second, short, and third. So the lopez call up is prolly is probably to allow keppinger to be a key pinch hitter and not have to save him for defense.

I wonder if Homer will actually go to Louisville. Is there a rule saying that he has to report and stay there?

Are they going to call him back up after the All-Star break? He had a really good game yesterday but didn't get the win (thanks Todd Coffey).

Good move to send Homer down and call up Pedro. Lopez has been on fire as of late in AAA and hopefully he gets some AB's.

He is scheduled to pitch in what 8 days here in the majors, he has to stay in the minors for 10 days unless someone on the 25 man roster goes on the DL

So either Josh goes on the DL or maybe Homer can come back early if someone is traded, anybody know the rules on trades and bringing people back up?

Plus sending him down might allow the Reds to avoid the Super Two problem with Homer & arbitration

I think in 8 days we may see Burton come down with another injury.

They're likely sending Homer down so that he can get a start on normal rest. I believe they did the same thing last year with Elizardo Ramirez who got a start in Class A over the break. No big deal, they just want to keep him on a routine.

I have heard that some posters want him to work on developing his pitches in AAA. Do we think he might be there for the rest of the year? I would like to see him play all year in the majors

Yesterday, I mentioned how it would better to have 11 pitchers, a real back-up infielder and Kepp on the roster. I guess WK was paying attention with Bailey/Lopez move. Probably will only last until after the break, still it's nice to know that WK does what I ask. Any requests for me to make, now that I have WK's ear?
