Cairo will give the Reds unprecedented reach into the Nile Basin.

He was deemed to be a slightly better candidate for the post than former big leaguer Scott "Dr." Livingstone.

I feel like it's an inevitability that some future Reds team will feature Miguel Cairo as manager and David Weathers as the pitching coach.

I think the experience thing is overrated. A handful of teams hired former players last offseason who didn't have any experience and it's worked out ok (Ventura in Chicago, Matheny in St. Louis.)

Cairo has already spent so much time in MLB dugouts acting as a semi-coach, he's probably already more qualified than a lot of the pool of managerial candidates out there.

I totally agree. I'm happy all the way around about this one.

No they were not, and I wouldn't say that because they had success that others would.

For every one of them there is a Joe Adock or Ken Aspromonte out there too.

It is so cool that quality guys like this want to be around the Reds when they retire. I'm not sure this would have happened ten years ago. Cairo is indeed a class act, and has a wealth of baseball knowledge that could very easily translate into a coaching/manager position in the near future.

I echo the sentiments that Rolen will also come aboard as a FO addition. He would make a tremendous coach/manager as well.

And I'm not saying you are wrong, which is why I say "may." But, it wouldn't surprise me if the Reds groom Cairo to one day take over the managerial job.
...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

Question here....so with this position, is Cairo allowed to be in the dugout during games? Not sure of the MLB rules on something like this. Especially if he has such a positive effect on the players in the dugout.

Always hoped they'd do something like this for Mr. Barry Larkin
