Would you rather have Gomes flailing at strike 3 breaking balls against right handed pitchers all year? Or would you rather see Fransisco trying to chase down fly balls in left field?

We need someone who can hit right handed pitching and play decent defense in left field. Need Lewis or Pods as a 5th outfielder to play that role. I'll happily take a .350 OBP with speed in that role.

Let's face it guys Walt will not be able to get anyone better than guys like Lewis and Hermida with the salary handcuffs he has been placed in.

True. But don't the Reds have a supposed surplus of pitching and some minor league talent (according to most RZ believers) to combine into some sort of trade package, to obtain something more useful than a Hermida or Lewis?

There is honestly No reason for Lewis now that Hermida is signed...

The team needs to get a Starting SS

no, i just see that he is our best option at that position given the issues we have at 3rd and feel that whatever he lacks at the plate will be more then covered up by his great glove in the field.

I agree, and the proverbial "back of baseball card" statistics tell me that Lewis is NOT an upgrade over Jonny Gomes. I am glad Walt is our GM. If left to the collective braintrust of the SD, we would be bankrupt and terrible (see Baltimore Orioles of the last 20 years).
What if this is as good as it gets?
