Re: Thursday July 21st minor league updates

Left the Burlington v. Dayton game early and a few things on a rough night so far. Mesoraco can hit the ball, and looks like a winner. When he was on the base paths he really was into it when others got out or made contact, something about him just seems like he is a gamer. I've got to say these two games he has caught are the only ones I have seen of him but his D looks .... BAD. Two times burlington ran on him and Dayton guessed right with the pitch out and couldnt even come close to nailing them, just terrible throws from an already standing catcher. I could not even begin to count the balls that went between his legs or right past to the back stop tonight. His D has a long ways to go, and left me kind of down on the guy. Anyone know how his D is progressing and is this something that can improve?

Good observations. In cold weather states like PA a ball player can work year round on his hitting unfortunately when it comes to defense what happens outside can't be duplicated indoors. I would imagine by next year he should start improving as he gets more reps and better coaching.

I asked it in another thread the other night but don't remember which one.

Why does Juan Duran have so many DNPs????? Is he hurt?

Re: Thursday July 21st minor league updates

Great, we took a DH in the first-round of the draft last year. Which wouldn't be so bad if we weren't an NL team.

I've defended the Mesoraco pick. But it looks like the reports that said he projects as a DH at the MLB level might have been correct. And it's not just this thread. Every time someone sees Mesoraco live, they talk about how his defense stinks. People also say he looks like he can hit. Alrighty then. Maybe we can use him as trade bait down the line. We need a real catcher, not a guy who has no clue behind the dish and can't throw.

Devosaco is 20 years old and learning the most complicated position on the field. I'm not going to freak out about his defense for at least two more years.

Re: Thursday July 21st minor league updates

Any connections I heard between Mesoraco and being a DH were a result of him having TJ surgery. I don't think anyone in the world said Mesoraco didn't have the tools to be a good catcher.
