I could be wrong, but I think he means that those players did not struggle in the minors and then did not know how to adjust when they struggled at the major league level.
I bet you could find plenty of players that didn't struggle ever in the minors and went on to be great major league players. Not real sure I buy that theory.

I'm as unimpressed with the Reds minor league talent as I've been in quite some time.
It's very nice to have so much home grown talent on the roster......but I just don't see MLB star talent in any of the positional players.

Yorman and Winkler both project as a top 1/3 tier outfielder, Yorman even more as he is very young for his league, has a good arm, and can play centerfield. Most scouts think Winkler will be a LF due to his defensive downside but will hit for 25/90 which would make him an everyday starter for us.
If you have pitching you don't need MLB "star" talent. What exactly is a "star" though? There are guys with All-Star potential on the farm as position guys go. Whether they become that is a different question.
Excluding Winker, I might understand this statement - if you're only talking about position players. The pitching is as good as it's been in a long time.
Winker is putting up numbers very similar to what Votto did at the same levels and age. Hard to see how you can't be impressed/excited with that.

Yes however they would have learned how to deal with it better at the MLB level. Players need hiccups during development outside of injuries.

Stephenson might be the best pitching prospect the Reds have had ever, or at least since Nolan and Gullett. There's a lot of arms to like at the moment. That alone is reason to be high on the system. Winker could be an A-level hitter. Ervin was the complete package last year and we'll have to see how much of his early struggles are wrist-related. Yorman's coming around quite nicely. It would be nice to have some more position player prospects in AAA and AA, but Sickels ranked the system #14 and it's definitely on the rise.

How quickly we forget the current Reds SP that was a consensus top 10 overall prospect. Seems that Stephenson is having some of the same consistency issues right now that Bailey did, but by all accounts, he's a bit more coachable.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.
What's strange is that almost all of the Reds interesting prospects are concentrated on two teams - Pensacola and Bakersfield. Louisville is the least interesting Reds AAA team I can ever remember, and outside of Travieso, Dayton hasn't been much to follow. One could make a case for a few of the guys like Daal, Rahier, Guillon, and even Ervin - so far as his early struggles have been a story, but really other than that, every interesting player in the Reds system is on one of those two teams. No top prospects really waiting to start in Rookie Leagues. Jose Ortiz maybe. Anyway, not sure what implication that has, but I thought it was interesting to note.

Isn't that how most teams are? Seems like the best prospects would usually be at High A and AA
It could be a positive that that "batch" of prospects will start to trickle in by 2016 when this current Reds core will look a little different.

So other than five guys, there is no one to follow in Dayton? Amir Garrett is worth following. Sal Romano is worth following. Dan Langfield is worth following.
The rookie levels have several guys of note down there, and of course the draft hasn't happened yet either.
