Why is it that the Reds can beat the good pitchers but they can't hit rookies for crap?

I don't think they can hit anyone, really. Carpenter did a number on them.

Not an expert on balks, but the pitcher started, stopped and then threw. Sure looked weird to me. Phillips was also not happy (understandably).

As long as his leg never moved towards home it probably wasn't a balk. Whether it moved toward home or not I won't ever know.

Maloney should pick up an endorsement from Delta...fly away and on a regular schedule....
"This isn’t stats vs scouts - this is stats and scouts working together, building an organization that blends the best of both worlds. This is the blueprint for how a baseball organization should be run. And, whether the baseball men of the 20th century like it or not, this is where baseball is going."---Dave Cameron, U.S.S. Mariner

You've got two issues going there.

They can beat good pitchers because that have pitching that is often better.

They can't hit rookie pitchers because they are technically 'pitchers'..... which greatly reduces our hitter's chances.
