And Wily broke the all-time stolen base record how many times?

The same amount of times Billy Hamilton has. Zero. Rickey holds the record. He is the greatest of all time (unless we want to count 1800's records).

Where the comparison fails is that Willy Taveras never existed, and he certainly never played for the Reds, no matter what old box scores say to the contrary.

Someone said Billy Hamilton might not be anything more than Otis Nixon.....I'll take than over his even faster brother Donell.

I know. And last I checked no one really cared much about minor league baseball records. In fact, I am betting aside from the minor league steals record, no one knows a single other record in the minor leagues. We only know this one because our guy did it and recently.

    Brett Gardner A+\AA age 22 .298/.395/.370/.764

We can exchange one season minor league stats of dozens of players and it will mean nothing.

I know we all have nightmares about Taveras as a Red, but his first three years, he was a near league average CF. it wasn't until his fifth year, his first year as a Red, before the league figured him out and he stunk.

I'll gladly take three years of league average CF from Hamiton and then have him turn into a pumpkin.

Before the trade deadline this year, Chris Denorfia was mentioned as a possible trade candidate. He makes 2.2M next year, and with a .340 career OBP, he could be relatively productive. Also, trading with the Padres has worked out well before.

Re: Who plays CF in 2014?

I'd offer a minor league deal to Grady Sizemore & try to sign Cory Hart to a one year deal.. I understand those are two injuries waiting to happen but if this team is so strapped for money I can't see them resigning Choo, Ellsbury, Granderson, Pence, Or Cruz. I list some of the other OFers because I still think Bruce is our best CFer.

BHam isn't quite ready yet and his call up has been stated that its merely for speed on the bases as a pinch runner. Not quite a lot of faith in the speedster. Instead of batting practice.. I'd be having him taking bunting practice. Might be the only way for him to get ABs this season.

The last time Grady was good Jack Wilson was a good 2nd baseman for the Pirates.

I would sign up for Billy being Otis Nixon right now. I don't think his bat will ever be much at the big league level. But his wheels will win games for us.

Otis Nixon was a part time player until he was age 31. His high water mark was an OPS+ of 94 in 460 PAs at age 32. He had a long career as a spare part and that's OK and maybe Billy can do that, but this is a thread about who should be the Reds CF in 2014 not who should be the 5th OF. Nixon's career OPS+ was 77. I'd honestly rather just play Heisey out there than have a typical Otis Nixon year manning CF (and I think Heisey is clearly a 300 PA part timer who is probably going to make more money than he's worth starting in 2014).
