He did strike out three. Josh Judy a scoreless 1.1. Texeira pitched two scoreless lowering his ERA to an even 1.00.

Pensacola trailing 8-4 in the bottom of the ninth.

Pitching: Daniel Corcino struggled tonight. 5IP 5H 6ER 4BB 7K. Gustafson gave up two runs in two innings of work. Clayton Tanner and Drew Hayes each pitched a scoreless frame. Hayes has picked up the pace after a slow start to the season. In his last 10.1 IP he has allowed just 4 hits while striking out 15.

Hitting: LaMarre two hits, a walk and an outfield assist. Gregorius with a triple. Puckett hit his 7th. Guzman number 5. Both solo rally killers. Andrew Means chipped in with a single.

My post in the thread I started:

Louisville lost their first game 4-3. Obispo started the game and threw 2 IP, allowing one earned run. Carroll threw 1.2 innings and allowed three earned runs. Judy and Texeira were solid in relief. Louisville had 4 hits, two by Rhinehart including a solo HR, one by Valaika which was a two run shot, and one by Negron. Negron was caught stealing, Valaika had an error and Perez threw someone out at home. This was a seven inning game.

Louisville won their second game 5-1. Carroll threw six inning while allowing one run with 3 BB and 3 K. He did allow seven hits. Webb threw a shutout inning. Everyone in the starting lineup got on base. Navarro led the team with two hits. Rhinehart hit a two RBI double. Soto, Phipps and Gallagher got one RBI each. Navarro allowed a passed ball and stolen base but also threw someone out stealing. No errors for the Bats. This was a seven inning game.

Pensacola is losing 8-4 through eight full innings. Corcino got lit up: 5 IP 6 ER 4 BB 7 K. Gustafson allowed two runs (one earned) in two innings of relief. Tanner and Hayes were solid in relief. Guzman and Puckett each had a solo HR. Gregorius hit a triple. Lamarre had two hits and a walk. Means also had a hit for the Wahoos. Lamarre had a SB and threw someone out at second. Guzman and Gregorius both had errors.

The Bakersfield Blaze game just got underway. Justice French threw a solid first inning. They are heading to the bottom of the first.

The Dayton Dragons lost 4-2. Quezada threw 4 innings while allowing three runs while walking six. Ryan Kemp allowed one run over two innings. Muhammed and Contreras pitched well in relief. Wright, Buckley, Josef Terry, Selsky, Waldrop, and Gonzalez all had hits, with Selsky getting two. Terry and Gonzalez got one RBI each. Buckley, Terry, and Waldrop all had a double. Terry was caught stealing. No errors for the Dragons.

Man, if something happens with Hanigan or Mesoraco, glad to know we have a good catcher like Navarro in triple-A. Heck, Corky isn't a bad "third catcher" to have in the organization -- someone that could be called up at any time to help out for a few weeks while a guy is on the DL. However, Navarro has already surpassed Corky on my imaginary depth chart. If one of the Reds' catchers gets hurt, glad to know Navarro is there waiting.

Lutz literally came out of nowhere last year and now he's one of our best prospects. He's having an excellent season thus far. He'll be in Pensacola before long IMO.

Bakersfield breaks the tie in the bottom of the sixth and then adds six more in the bottom of the eighth to win 11-4.

Donald Lutz had himself a game. 5 for 5 with a double and a home run (11). He is now batting .326 with 34 ribeyes.
Theodis Bowe introduced himself to the California League by going 3 for 3.

Question: If Theo Bowe fielded a gapper at the base of the wall in left-center would the ball get to home plate faster by him throwing to Slidin' Billy who pegged it to the catcher? Or. If Bowe picked it up and ran it in to Hamilton who raced to the plate, ball in hand?

Re: Monday May 14, 2012 Minor League Updates

Was wondering if anybody had any informed impressions of Bill Rhinehart. The Reds picked him up last year from Washington, which evidently didn't regard him highly as a prospect. But he's a left-handed hitter who has shown substantial power. Last year, in his two stops at AA, he put up 28 HR. In six seasons, his career OPS is .793. He's played primarily first base in the past, although he does have some outfield experience. This year, the Bats have used him exclusively in RF (when he isn't the DH). He seems like a less exciting but more advanced version of Donald Lutz; or perhaps an outfield variation of Mike Costanza. Anyway, I'd be curious to know if anybody who has watched him play might consider him a possibility as a part-time LH bat for the Reds.

I think Lutz is ready for AA. Given the big league need in LF (and for a LHH) there is no reason not to put him on the fast-track.

Poor plate discipline could be a reason. 9 walks and 30 strikeouts isn't Juan Francisco bad, but it isn't exactly good either. Just one walk and 9 strikeouts in May so far. He is also pretty raw in the outfield still, granted he can work on that anywhere. But I think you might run the risk of harming his development by rushing his bat to the next level just yet.
