I asked if anything notable happened at instructs. He said Manny Aybar turned some heads, Constante showed up and showed a good arm and Guillon's curve improved. Also said Reynoso looked better, having recovered from a knee surgery.

Re: DSL guys, he pointed to Hector Vargas and Luis Gonzalez at SS. Also said to watch Jose Siri.

On the top 10, I'll stick to my familiar themes:

1. SMB is underrated.

2. Travieso is overrated. (Cooper's comment that Travieso can hit was interesting. Stetson Allie 2.0?)

3. Guillon is underrated.

How is Ismael Guillon underrated? He walked 95 batters in 121 innings in Low-A baseball, doesn't have elite level stuff and is still being ranked by BA as a Top 15 prospect in the organization. I would say he is drastically overrated at that spot. I am just not sure what I am missing.

Just a matter of opinion, Doug. I've seen him pitch a few times, including a couple of the dominant outings late in the year. I like his stuff. Fastball is enough, curve has potential, change is good. Outstanding athlete. Persevered through a very difficult first half to show a lot of improvement late in the year -- so, mentally tough. I think the extreme control issues were a bit of an aberration -- he's had better years in that regard.

Guillon has two years in the US with absolutely brutal walk rates. Not sure it is an aberration that his control is a giant question mark.

But yes, having the best outfield arm among 30 professional outfielders, even in your own organization says something. You may not be Vlad, but you certainly aren't an average armed guy either.

Sorry, but this argument about Yorman's arm is stupid. He has a rocket arm. I went to the AZL All Star Game. It drew 6,000 folks. (free tickets will do that). He had a throw that was not on target (overthrew the catcher at home) but the whole crowd was "ooohing" when he let it loose.

Corcino - I really wanted him traded last winter. Still got a chance to become a pitcher, but he's no longer a prospect.

If we were still in the 80's, Corcino would have a decent chance to develop into that long reliever/swingman type. Unfortunately for him, that role is now extinct. When I saw him pitch, he was very inconsistent. The Bats stayed with him, and he finished strong and went deep into the game.

I still have some hope for him that he can gain enough consistency to be a BOR guy that eats innings. Not to be brutal, but he doesn't seem to have the stuff to be a good middle reliever. I never saw him pitch before 2013 (and don't know a lot about him), but I really questioned why he was ever ranked higher than Cingrani by anyone who ever saw them both pitch. Not a dig at anyone, maybe he was just exposed at AAA, but he looked very "blah" to me.

Stuff was down a notch in 2013. Cingrani saw his stuff step up a notch in 2013. Toss in that Corcino also lost complete control of the strikezone and well, you get where you are coming from in the not understanding it part. Both guys were quite different pitchers in 2011-2012 than they were in 2013.

I think Corcino benefited quite a bit from the "Little Johnny Cueto" comparisons.

Both were diminutive pitchers signed out of the DR for cheap, and had very similar stats (and alleged stuff) for the first few years of their professional careers. So while Cueto is the absolute upside case for a pitcher of that profile, Corcino is probably the more realistic "base case."

You'll recall that there was a lot of similar talk that Cueto's future would be in the bullpen, he didn't have the same stuff (or frame) as Homer Bailey, etc. etc. I think when people saw the kind of success that Cueto was having at the big league level from 2010 to 2012, they (rightly or wrongly) got excited and starting projecting the same kind of future for Corcino.
