Why Does Owings Bat 9th When He Pitches?

Shouldn't he be treated more like a DH? It seems to me that the Reds should have an "AL-ish" lineup when he goes. Or does Dusty not want to disturb the normal lineup every fifth day?

I have no idea. He should bat 4th IMO.

It has to do with future game substitutions.

I'd bat him second, he strikes out less than Dickerson.

I wonder if Owings would ever play in th field? I wouldn't really want him out there all the time but if Dusty wanted to double switch and Owings was due up is there any way he'd stay in the game?

And why does Hanigan bat 8th?

And why does BP or EE bat 4th?

And why do Hairston, AGon and Dickerson bat at all?

Yeah, let's bat all those good hitters we have on the roster who dusty isn't playing. Oh wait, there aren't any. If you want to blame someone for the roster or lineup, blame Walt. He constructed the team. If BP and EE suck along with Hairston, AGon and Dickerson there isn't really much Dusty can do. What do you want him to do, write in Albert Pujols name as the 4th place hitter and have him just appear. He's playing with the hand he's been dealt. Don't you think he wants an Evan Longoria or a David Wright or an Arod to hit 4th? Of course he does, but he doesn't have one.

I think we agree. My point was on a team with so many weak bats, it really doesn't matter if Owings moves up in the order.

The exception to that point in my post was Hanigan. That's another thread.

Put Owings in Left and bat him 4th.

And let the defensive adventures begin. For a game or 2 in an emergency, perhaps. But as a regular outfielder no thank you.

What position did he play at Tulane? Or did he just DH and pitch?

That is exactly the reason, but there's always the double switch that could make things interesting.

He bats there because Dusty says that is where the pitcher bats.... I am not even being funny, he really said that.

No kidding! Is that stupid, or what?

His lifetime stats are off the chart.

    He's a top-5 hitter.

    I'd bat him 2nd.

Make sure he gets at least 3 at-bats.

If an everyday player wants to b- about it, then let them prove it by being a better hitter.
