Comparing the 2010 Reds to the 2008 Brewers - Are the Reds built better?

After thoroughly enjoying a winning season and the opportunity to watch Reds Playoff Baseball (no matter how poor the outcome) I am left very optimistic of the Reds future, as this team was built with young players that are only going to get better. However, I remember just 2 years ago that the Brewers were built for the same type of run and all that came of it was the 2008 Wild-card team. The next two years were losing season for the Brewers.

So what makes the 2010 Reds a team that is better built for the long haul?

I understand the half-season Sabathia rental was not a long term solution. And that Sheets injury issues definitely hampered a long run. Hardy's fall in productions couldn't help.

What else sets us apart from the 2008 Brewers that make you confident that post-season baseball will not be a one year anomaly in the Queen City?

pitching. that playoff run by them is largely due to sabathia carrying them there. also sheets not being someone to count on the following year. the reds have depth to make a big move for a bigger player. they can sustain an injury to the starting rotation. they bring backk all their players.

bruce and stubbs have not peaked, nor has leake, wood, bailey, volquez, chapman. our players are ahead of pace.

i do think we need to upgrade to get back. i think we are closer to the rockies or twins, rays than the brewers.

From the outside, the Reds have a lot more depth on the mound than the Brewers. Definitely looks like better days ahead for Reds.

That team would not have been a playoff team without sabathia. This team made the playoffs without giving away young talent for a rental player.

I think we are closer to the 08 Phillies than any other team.....at least I think it was the 08 team that was beat out of the DS......someone jump in here with a good memory and not make me look it up......But the Phillies had good pitching, youth at most positions that were still learning the game...they built from that and I would love to see payroll before versus after that year....and even attendance before and after....I guess that gives me something to look up tonight....LOL....but I see us having a good chance at repeating what they are putting together if we can just get us a solid #1 starter and a solid LF'er.....we can win with Janish until a cant miss SS comes along. We need 2 things, a LF'er and a Ace...give me those 2 items and I will watch this team build a dynasty.
