    Patriots release Corey Dillon

Reports conflicting as to whether or not he threw his equipment out his car window as he drove out of town.

It wouldn't be the first city where he threw his equipment away.
All models are wrong. Some of them are useful.

He was set to retire anyway, wasn't he?

Yup I was referencing his final game in Cincy where I was witness to him throwing his equipment into the stands as he was being booed off the field.

Later went on Inside the NFL and tried to say he was giving the fans "something to remember him by." One of the lamest attempted spin jobs I've ever seen. His actions were aggressive and appeared fueled by anger.

Leon would rather flip burgers than play for the Patriots again.

He was going to "retire" to get out of his final years on the Patriots contract, then "unretire" to get to sign with someone else.

I have a feeling he will be paired wih Leon Washington in the Jets backfield for the 2007 season. I can't say I will be upset if it happens.

Why did he want to leave the Patriots?

I'm not positive, but it may be because he already got his ring and now the Pats are looking to make Maroney the featured back, so he wants to go somewhere he can still be the star.

Just speculation on my part though, because from what I had heard he was set to hang it up for good.

His agent said he wasn't getting enough carries?? Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever considering where he's at in his career...

I'm glad things turned around on him: A winner doesn't want him because they found somebody better.

    Re: Patriots release Corey Dillon

I never blamed Dillon for leaving the Bengals. He could have been a lot more grown up about it, but still I thought he had all the right in the world to decide that he'd rather go somewhere else after enduring the incompetence of the Bengals.

Running backs just don't have a long shelf life. Cory Dillon, in his prime, was a great one. But as Rudi Johnson proved in Cincinnati, and Joseph Addai did in Indianapolis, there are lots of younger guys who can step into the older guy's shoes very nicely. Dillon knew that and I can't blame him at all for wanting to get his ring before he lost a half a step instead of sticking around and hoping the Bengals would win sooner than later.

I don't quite know what he's up to now, but I never felt the animosity towards him that a lot of other Bengals fans did.

I didn't either, SD, till I witnessed that classless final display along with some other of his choice quotes as he put Cincy in his rearview mirror.

    No class.

He got his ring. I was happy for him.

Never blamed him for the BS he pulled in Cincy, his best years were wasted on a franchise that had no desire to win. I hope he makes the Hall of Fame.

Same here, but like WilymoROCKS sez- his actions were classless.
